About the BSE India Manufacturing Index
The BSE India Manufacturing Index measures the performance of Indian manufacturing and production companies within the BSE LargeMidCap. Its rules aim for 30 companies, and BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd. maintains it.
How companies are chosen
Eligible companies are common stocks from the BSE LargeMidCap with a listing history of at least six months and a basic industry on the index's list of manufacturing industries. Diversified companies count only if most of their revenue comes from manufacturing and production activities.
A stock must also have no more than five non-trading days in the past six months and an annualized traded value of at least ₹3,000 crore with a turnover ratio of at least 30%. Current constituents need ₹2,000 crore and 20%.
Stocks that pass are ranked by average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization. The top 25 are selected, then existing constituents ranked 26 to 35 are added in order of rank until 30 is reached, and non-constituents fill any places still open.
How it is weighted
Weights follow float-adjusted market capitalization, with a cap of 10% on any one stock and 30% on any one macro-economic indicator of the India Industry Classification Structure, applied at each semi-annual rebalancing. The float is the part of a company available to investors, which its Investable Weight Factor defines.
Constituents classified as Diversified are treated as part of the Industrials sector.
When it is reviewed
The index rebalances twice a year, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar and Sep. The rebalancing reference date is after the close of market on the third Friday of Feb and Aug.
No stocks are added between rebalancings, so the number of stocks can fall below the planned count if deletions are made. A company whose industry classification changes between rebalancings so that it becomes ineligible is deleted at the next quarterly share update.
Companies added to the Graded Surveillance Measure (GSM) list are dropped from the index monthly.
Base date and value
The index launched on 25 May 2015, and its first value date is 16 Sep 2005.
