About the Nifty500 Multicap India Manufacturing 50:30:20
The Nifty500 Multicap India Manufacturing 50:30:20 Index tracks 75 manufacturing companies drawn from the Nifty 500: 15 large cap, 25 mid cap and 35 small cap. Segment weights are fixed at 50%, 30% and 20%. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
A company is eligible if it is in, or about to join, the Nifty 500, has ordinary equity shares, and belongs to one of the basic industries listed for the manufacturing theme. They include 2/3 wheelers, auto components, aerospace and defence, pharmaceuticals, commodity and specialty chemicals, iron and steel, aluminium, electrical cables, consumer electronics, tractors and tyres, and the list can change as markets change.
Eligible companies are split into three segments: large cap (members of the Nifty 100), mid cap (the Nifty Midcap 150) and small cap (the Nifty Smallcap 250). Within each segment they are ranked by six-month free-float market capitalization (the market value of the shares available for trading), with preference to stocks that trade in NSE's futures and options segment. The top 15 large cap, top 25 mid cap and top 35 small cap companies are chosen.
A futures and options stock outside the index replaces the smallest stock in its segment that has no futures and options trading. If every member of a segment already trades there, an outside stock needs a free-float market capitalization at least 1.5 times that of the segment's smallest member to come in. If a segment has too few eligible stocks, the index keeps the number available. A stock that leaves the Nifty 500 also leaves this index.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight follows its free-float market capitalization. The three segments are held at fixed total weights: large cap 50%, mid cap 30% and small cap 20%. No stock may weigh more than 10% when the index is rebalanced.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, effective from the last trading day of Mar and Sep. The cut-off dates are 31 Jan and 31 Jul, and average data for the six months ending on the cut-off date is used. The market gets four weeks' notice of changes.
Weights are rebalanced every quarter, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Each quarter the index is also checked against SEBI's portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds of 10 Jan 2019, and constituents or weights are corrected if a norm is breached. An extra reconstitution and rebalancing can follow if a member leaves the Nifty 500 or is suspended or delisted, or if a scheme of arrangement affects it.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 6 Mar 2024.
