About the Nifty India Manufacturing
The Nifty India Manufacturing Index tracks stocks that represent manufacturing sectors in India, selected from the Nifty 100, Nifty Midcap 150 and Nifty Smallcap 50. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It held 77 companies on 30 Sep 2026, a number that varies.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the combined universe of the Nifty 100, Nifty Midcap 150 and Nifty Smallcap 50 at the time of review are eligible, and only ordinary equity shares are considered. A stock must also belong to an eligible basic industry, the industry group a company is classified in.
Eligible companies come from basic industries that broadly represent manufacturing, from 2/3 wheelers, auto components and aerospace and defence to commodity chemicals, fertilizers and heavy electrical equipment.
Selection starts with all eligible Nifty 100 stocks. Where they cover less than 75% of a basic industry's 6 month average free-float market capitalization, Nifty Midcap 150 and Nifty Smallcap 50 stocks are added in descending order of that figure until 75% is reached. Free-float market capitalization is the value of the shares normally expected to be available for trading in the market.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is based on its free-float market capitalization, capped at 5% for one stock.
Automobile and Auto Components and Capital Goods have a minimum weight of 20% each. The minimum is relaxed for either of the two if it has fewer than 4 stocks in the index.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted and rebalanced in Mar and Sep, effective on the last trading day of those months, using the 6 month average free-float market capitalization ended Jan and Jul.
An ad-hoc reconstitution follows the suspension or delisting of a constituent, or a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 16 Aug 2021.
