About the Nifty Transportation & Logistics
The Nifty Transportation & Logistics is an index of up to 30 Nifty 500 companies that broadly represent the transportation and logistics theme. It was developed by NSE Indices.
How companies are chosen
Companies that form part of the Nifty 500 at the time of review are eligible, and only those in certain basic industries under the AMFI Industry Classification qualify. The index takes the largest 30 of them by 6 month average free-float market capitalisation. The list of eligible basic industries can change.
A company outside the index is included if its free-float market capitalisation is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest index constituent.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free float market capitalization, with a periodic cap on each stock's weight. Free float counts only the shares normally expected to be available for trading, leaving out those reported under the promoter category.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed semi-annually on data for six months ending Jan and Jul, with changes effective in Mar and Sep, along with the Nifty broad-based indices.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 22 Feb 2022.
