About the BSE India Infrastructure Index
The BSE India Infrastructure Index measures the performance of Indian infrastructure companies within the BSE AllCap. It is built to hold 30 companies, a count set at each rebalancing, and is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the BSE AllCap. Only common stocks with a listing history of at least six months and a qualifying basic industry under the common India Industry Classification Structure are eligible. Float-adjusted market capitalization counts only a company's available float, which its investable weight factor defines.
Qualifying industries are grouped into infrastructure clusters: Energy, NBFCs, Construction & Engineering, Transportation and Utilities. Construction and engineering leaves out companies manufacturing pipes and tubes, utilities leave out companies trading electricity, and the NBFC cluster includes only companies the Reserve Bank of India categorizes as infrastructure finance.
At each semi-annual rebalancing a stock needs an average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization of at least ₹100 crore, an annualized traded value of at least ₹20 crore and a turnover ratio of at least 10%. Current members stay eligible at ₹80 crore, ₹16 crore and 8%. A stock also needs no more than five non-trading days in the past six months.
The turnover ratio is the annualized traded value divided by the average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization.
Eligible stocks are ranked within their infrastructure cluster by average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization, and those ranked below 10th are excluded. Where fewer than 30 stocks are eligible, the cut-off moves to 15th.
The top 20 stocks are then selected, members or not. Existing members ranked 21 to 40 fill the rest in rank order until the count reaches 30, and non-members are added in rank order if it is still short.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, with a cap of 10% on any one stock and 30% on any one infrastructure cluster, applied at each semi-annual rebalancing.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, effective from market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar and Sep. The data used is as of the close on the third Friday of Feb and Aug.
No stocks are added between rebalancings, so after deletions the number of members can fall below the count set at the rebalancing.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 19 May 2014, and its values begin on 3 Apr 2006.
