About the Nifty50 Equal Weight

Nifty50 Equal Weight is an index of the 50 companies in the Nifty 50, each given the same weight, where the Nifty 50 weights each by its market capitalization. It is managed by NSE Indices Limited.

How companies are chosen

Every company in the Nifty 50 is a member, and any change in the composition of the Nifty 50 is incorporated in this index.

How it is weighted

All companies receive equal weights at each rebalancing and reconstitution. Where one company has more than one security in the index, the company is equal weighted and its securities share that weight in proportion to free float market capitalization. Weights may drift between rebalancings as stock prices move.

When it is reviewed

Weights are reset to equal every quarter, from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, using closing prices 3 trading days earlier, with 3 trading days' notice.

Members change twice a year with the Nifty 50's review, on data to Jan and Jul, from the last trading day of Mar and Sep. A member that leaves the Nifty 50 through suspension, delisting or a scheme of arrangement starts an additional, unscheduled reconstitution and rebalancing.

Base date and value

The index has a base date of 3 Nov 1995 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 13 Apr 2017.
