About the Nifty India New Age Consumption
The Nifty India New Age Consumption Index tracks 75 stocks from the Nifty 500 that represent the new age consumption theme: companies catering to the discretionary and aspirational spending of the new generation, in sectors such as consumer services, automobiles and auto components, consumer durables and realty. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the Nifty 500: stocks that are part of it, or about to join it, at the time of review. Within that universe, a stock qualifies only if it belongs to one of the eligible basic industries, which include Passenger Cars & Utility Vehicles, 2/3 Wheelers, Gems, Jewellery And Watches, Hotels & Resorts and Financial Technology (Fintech). The 75 stocks are chosen in two steps: first the largest stock in each eligible basic industry by 6-month average free-float market capitalization, the market value of the shares available for trading; then, if that gives fewer than 75, the largest of the remaining stocks by the same measure.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is based on its free-float market capitalization. Sector weights are capped at 25% and stock weights at 5% when the index is rebalanced each quarter, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, and weights can drift above the caps between rebalancings as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually, which means its members are reselected twice a year, in Mar and Sep using data to the end of Jan and Jul. A stock that moves out of the Nifty 500 also moves out of this index at the review.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 25 Oct 2024.
