About the Nifty Conglomerate 50
The Nifty Conglomerate 50 is an index of up to 50 stocks from the Nifty 500 that belong to India's major conglomerate groups, maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It held 50 companies on 30 Sep 2026.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the stocks in the Nifty 500 at the time of review, except those classified under the industry Banks. They are grouped by business group. A group counts as a conglomerate if it has at least three companies and spans two or more sectors.
The top 3 stocks of each conglomerate by 6-month average free-float market capitalization are taken first. Free-float market capitalization is the market value of the shares available for trading. If that gives more than 50 stocks, the third-ranked stocks of each conglomerate are re-ranked and the excess ones with the lowest average are dropped, then the second-ranked stocks if the count is still above 50. If it gives fewer than 50, the fourth-ranked stock of each conglomerate is added in descending order of that average, then the fifth, and so on. If all conglomerates together hold fewer than 50 stocks, the index keeps the smaller number.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization. At each rebalancing, one conglomerate group is capped at 23% of the index and one stock at 10%. Weights drift between rebalancings as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed and rebalanced quarterly, with the capping done on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Each review uses data for the previous six months ended Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct respectively.
At every review the top 2 stocks of each eligible conglomerate are included, up to the maximum of 50. A non-member company of an eligible conglomerate is added if its 6-month average free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest index constituent of that conglomerate. A stock that leaves the Nifty 500 leaves the index, as do the stocks of a conglomerate that stops being eligible. An extra review is started if a constituent is excluded from the Nifty 500, suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 1 Sep 2025. A Total Returns variant, which includes dividends, also exists.
