About the Nifty EV & New Age Automotive
The Nifty EV & New Age Automotive index tracks listed companies active in electric vehicles and new age automotive vehicles such as hybrid, hydrogen fuel-based and green hybrid vehicles, along with their batteries, components, raw materials and technology. It held 37 companies on 30 Sep 2026. NSE Indices Limited maintains it.
How companies are chosen
Only companies in the Nifty 500 at the time of review can join, and the bottom 10 percentile by 6-month average daily turnover are left out. A company must then fall into one of four groups. Group A makes electric and new age automotive vehicles: 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, passenger and commercial vehicles. Group B makes batteries for them. Group C covers components (C.1), raw materials other than metals (C.2) and advanced automotive technology (C.3). Group D holds companies from the Group C universe that are also part of the Product Linked Incentives for advanced automotive or advanced chemistry cell batteries, the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles scheme, or the Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles, leaving out companies only in the charging ecosystem.
All Group A and Group B companies are selected. From each of C.1, C.2 and C.3 the top 5 by 6-month average free-float market capitalisation are added, then the top 5 from Group D not already chosen. Free-float market capitalisation is the market value of the shares available for public trading.
How it is weighted
Each company's weight follows its free-float market capitalisation. Group A companies together are capped at 40%, each Group A company at 8%, and every other company at 4%. Where these limits cannot be met, the cap is relaxed by 1%.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Mar and Sep, using the average of the six months ending the cut-off dates of 31 Jan and 31 Jul. Weights are rebalanced quarterly. Companies that leave the Nifty 500 also leave the index at the next review. An extra reconstitution follows if a member is removed from the Nifty 500 through a corporate action or an exchange suspension. Each quarter the index is also screened against SEBI's portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds of 10 Jan 2019, and corrected if it fails them.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 2 Apr 2018 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 30 May 2024.
