About the Nifty Rural
Nifty Rural is a thematic index of up to 75 stocks from the Nifty 500 that represent the rural theme, chosen by size from a list of eligible basic industries. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks that are part of the Nifty 500, or going to be part of it, at the time of a review can be included. Within the Nifty 500, a stock must belong to one of the basic industries listed for the rural theme, such as 2/3 wheelers, tractors, fertilizers, pesticides and agrochemicals, sugar, and tea and coffee.
The largest 75 eligible stocks by 6-month average free-float market capitalization (the market value of only the shares available for trading) form the index. A stock that is not a member is added only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is based on its free-float market capitalization, with sector weights capped at 25% and stock weights capped at 10%. Capping factors are realigned on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, and a stock's weight can rise above its cap between those dates as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually, effective from Mar and Sep, using data for the six months ending Jan and Jul. It is rebalanced quarterly.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 25 Jul 2024 and is calculated at the end of each day.
