About the BSE Top 10 Banks
The BSE Top 10 Banks is an index of the 10 largest stocks by free-float market capitalisation among companies classified as Banks at industry level.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the constituents of the BSE 500. Stocks classified as Banks at industry level form the eligible universe.
Eligible stocks are ranked by their average 6-month free-float market capitalisation, and the top 10 are selected. Existing constituents ranking beyond 10 are excluded.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation. A single constituent is capped at 33%, and the top three constituents together at no more than 63% of the index.
The caps are applied quarterly, at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Any excess weight is redistributed proportionately to all uncapped stocks.
Investable weight factors, which define a company's available float, are reviewed quarterly.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec. Any addition or deletion triggers an ad-hoc rebalancing to reweight all individual stock caps.
