About the BSE Power
The BSE Power Index, maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., is a sector index of the companies in the BSE 500 Index that are classified under power-related basic industries: heavy electrical equipment, power generation, integrated power utilities, power transmission, power trading, and power distribution and other electrical equipment.
How companies are chosen
Eligible stocks are taken in order of average float-adjusted market capitalization until they cover 90% of the sector's average float-adjusted market capitalization. A company must also have a trading frequency of at least 90% in the preceding six months.
A company joins only if it falls within the first 88% of the sector's float-adjusted market capitalization, and a member leaves only if it falls beyond 92%. At each selection the index is kept at 10 companies or more, by keeping members and adding others by rank.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization at each quarterly rebalance, with no single stock above 33% and no single basic industry above 30%.
When it is reviewed
Members are reviewed twice a year, in Jun and Dec. New companies are added only at those two reviews. In Mar and Sep, companies are deleted without replacements, even if the count falls below 10.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 9 Nov 2007. Its values are calculated back to 3 Jan 2005, its first value date.
