About BSE Top 10 Banks index funds and ETFs
BSE Top 10 Banks index funds and ETFs hold the ten largest banks of the BSE 500 in the weights of the BSE Top 10 Banks index, so they earn the index's return less their costs. This page lists the ETFs that track it.
The index they track
The BSE Top 10 Banks holds the 10 largest stocks by free float market capitalisation (company size counted only on the shares available for public trading) among companies the BSE 500 classes as Banks at industry level. Banks are ranked on that value averaged over 6 months, and a member ranking below 10th is dropped.
Weights and caps
Stocks are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation. A single bank is capped at 33% and the top 3 together at 63%. The caps are reapplied every quarter, in Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, and any excess weight goes to the uncapped stocks in proportion. The membership is rebalanced twice a year, in Jun and Dec.
ETFs on this page
The funds on this index are ETFs, so their units trade on the exchange at a price set by buyers and sellers. That price can sit above the NAV (net asset value, the worth of one unit) as a premium or below it as a discount; the page shows the median of each trading day's close against its NAV over the month. Fund size is assets under management across all plans.
Tracking difference and tracking error
Tracking difference is the fund's one-year return less the index's, usually negative because of costs, with the after fee figure adding the year's average expense ratio back. An ETF without a one-year tracking difference shows only tracking error, how much its daily returns differed from the index's on a yearly scale.
Expense ratio and ordering
The expense ratio is the fund's yearly charge as a share of the money invested. It comes out of NAV daily. ETFs with a tracking difference are listed nearest the index first; the rest follow by expense ratio, lowest first.
