About the Nifty Chemicals
Nifty Chemicals tracks the performance of stocks from the Nifty 500 that form part of the Chemicals sector. It holds a maximum of 20 stocks and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Companies must be in the Nifty 500 at the time of review and belong to the basic industries of the Chemicals sector. The top 20 of them are picked by 6-month average free-float market capitalization, with a preference for stocks that have futures and options trading on NSE.
Free float is the part of a company's shares normally expected to be available for trading in the market.
If fewer than 10 Nifty 500 companies qualify, the rest come from the top 800 companies ranked by average daily turnover and full market capitalisation.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization. A stock's weight is capped at 33% and the top 3 stocks together are capped at 62%.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced quarterly. The semi-annual review uses data for the six months ending Jan and Jul.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 11 Mar 2025. It has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000.
