About the Nifty MidSmall Healthcare
Nifty MidSmall Healthcare tracks the mid cap and small cap stocks within the healthcare sector. It includes up to 30 stocks, selected from the Nifty MidSmallcap 400, and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 at the time of review are eligible. A stock outside the futures and options segment that hit the circuit filter on at least 20% of trading days in the past 6 months is ineligible.
Eligible healthcare stocks are ranked by 6-month average free-float market capitalization (the market value of the shares normally available for trading, excluding promoter holdings), and 30 are selected. A stock not in the index joins only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent, which it replaces.
If fewer than 30 eligible stocks exist, the index continues with the number available.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free float market capitalization. At rebalancing, no stock may exceed 33% and the top 3 stocks together may not exceed 62%, with capping applied on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually, in Mar and Sep along with the Nifty MidSmallcap 400, and rebalanced quarterly. The cut-off dates are 31 Jan and 31 Jul, using average data for six months. Changes are announced four weeks before they take effect.
Additional reconstitution and rebalancing happens if a constituent is excluded from the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 or is suspended, delisted or undergoes a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000 points. It was launched on 3 Aug 2022.
