About the Nifty200 Momentum 30
The Nifty200 Momentum 30 is an index of the 30 companies in the Nifty 200 whose prices rose most over the past 6 and 12 months, after allowing for how much each price swings from day to day (its Normalised Momentum Score).
How companies are chosen
Companies in the Nifty 200 at the time of review are eligible, with a minimum listing history of 1 year.
A company must also be available for trading in the derivatives segment on the effective date.
Each return is divided by the volatility of the stock's daily returns over 1 year (their annualised standard deviation). Each of the two results is then compared with all eligible stocks as a Z score (the ratio minus the mean ratio of the eligible stocks, divided by their standard deviation), and the two Z scores are averaged 50:50; the Normalised Momentum Score is calculated from that average. The 30 stocks with the highest score are chosen.
To limit how often members change, the top 15 by score always join and members ranked below 45 always leave.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is its free float market cap multiplied by its Normalised Momentum Score. The free float figures come from public shareholding, and shareholding reported under the promoter category is among the categories excluded.
A stock's weight is capped at the lower of 5% or 5 times its weight in an index based only on free float market capitalisation. The cap is applied at each rebalancing.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semi-annually, in Jun and Dec. A stock that moves out of the Nifty 200 also moves out of this index.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 25 Aug 2020.
