About the Nifty Housing
Nifty Housing is an index of up to 50 companies from the Nifty 500 that represent the housing theme. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Companies in the Nifty 500 at the time of review are eligible, and only those in the basic industries of the housing theme. The largest eligible companies by 6-month average free-float market capitalisation are chosen. Free float is the share of a company's shares that is available for trading, so free-float market capitalisation counts only those shares at their market price.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is based on its free-float market capitalisation. A single stock is capped at 10% and a single sector at 25%. Capping factors are realigned quarterly, effective the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually, along with the Nifty broad-based indices.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 15 Feb 2022.
