About the BSE Housing Index
The BSE Housing Index measures the performance of companies in the BSE 250 LargeMidCap Index that are classified in housing-related industries, with a cap on each company's weight. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Private Limited and holds every eligible stock, so its count is not fixed.
How companies are chosen
Companies are drawn from the BSE 250 LargeMidCap Index, and only common stocks in these basic industries are eligible: cement and cement products, other construction materials, consumer electronics, furniture and home furnishing, ceramics, granites and marbles, household appliances, houseware, plywood boards and laminates, sanitary ware, paints, residential and commercial projects, housing finance companies, construction vehicles, electrical cables and industrial plastic products.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, with a single company capped at 5% and any excess weight shared proportionally among uncapped companies. Float-adjusted market capitalization counts only a company's available float, as set by its investable weight factor, which is reviewed every quarter.
When it is reviewed
The index rebalances twice a year, effective on the Monday after the third Friday of Jun and Dec, using a reference date after the close of the third Friday of May and Nov. Weights are reset and capped twice a year as well, effective on the Monday after the third Friday of Mar and Sep.
Base date and value
The index launched on 27 Jun 2022. Its first value date, the earliest day it has a value for, is 16 Dec 2016.
