About the Nifty Cement
Nifty Cement Index tracks up to 20 stocks from the Nifty Total Market that belong to the ‘Cement & Cement products’ industry. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty Total Market at the time of review are eligible if they belong to the ‘Cement & Cement products’ basic industry.
The 20 stocks with the highest 6-month average free-float market capitalization (the value of the shares available for trading, which leaves out shares held by promoters) among eligible stocks that trade in the futures and options (F&O) segment are taken first. If fewer than 20 result, the remaining places go to other eligible stocks on the same measure. The rules aim for at least 10 stocks; if too few qualify even after the pool is widened beyond the Nifty Total Market, the index may hold fewer than 10.
A stock that is not yet a member and is not in the F&O segment is ineligible if the instances of its hitting the upper or lower circuit (price band) in the past 6 months are 20% or more of the number of trading days in that period.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, with no single stock above 15%.
The cap is applied quarterly, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed and reconstituted twice a year, in Mar and Sep, using data for the six months ended Jan and Jul respectively.
F&O stocks are included compulsorily and replace the smallest non-F&O members, up to a maximum of 20 stocks. A non-F&O stock enters if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest non-F&O member.
An extra review is started if a member leaves the Nifty Total Market or is suspended, delisted or part of a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 16 Feb 2026.
