About the Nifty Construction
Nifty Construction is an index of the stocks from the Construction sector within the Nifty Total Market, maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It held 23 companies on 30 Sep 2026.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty Total Market at the time of review are eligible if their basic industry belongs to the Construction sector. All eligible stocks form the index.
A stock not yet in the index that does not trade in the futures and options (F&O) segment cannot be added if, in the past 6 months, it hit its upper or lower price limit on 20% or more of the trading days (a day on which it hit both counts twice).
The rules set a minimum of 10 stocks; if fewer qualify, the shortfall is first filled from the top 1000 stocks ranked by average daily turnover and average daily full market capitalization.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, and no stock may weigh more than 20%. The cap is applied quarterly, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
Members are reviewed every six months, in Mar and Sep, using data for the six months ended Jan and Jul. Weights are rebalanced quarterly.
An extra reconstitution and rebalancing follows if a constituent leaves the Nifty Total Market or is suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 15 Jun 2026.
A Nifty Construction Total Returns Index is published as a variant, and the index is calculated at the end of each day.
