About the BSE Select IPO
The BSE Select IPO index measures the performance of companies listed on BSE through an initial public offering, or through a spin-off or demerger. It holds at least 20 and at most 100 stocks, and its membership is reviewed every quarter. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Each quarter the index draws on companies listed through an IPO or a spin-off or demerger in the past one year. Only common stocks qualify, and a stock needs at least three months of listing history on BSE at the rebalancing reference date. The first portfolio drew on IPOs and spin-offs listed between 2011 and 2014.
A stock qualifies if its average market capitalisation is greater than that of the 200th stock in the BSE AllCap Index. It also qualifies if its average market capitalisation is greater than the 500th stock's and its annualised traded value is greater than the 475th stock's. Both measures use the prior three months. Annualised traded value is the median of the monthly medians of daily traded values, scaled using 250 trading days a year.
An existing member is removed if its average market capitalisation or its annualised traded value falls below that of the 600th stock in the BSE AllCap Index, or once it has completed five years in the index. If the count falls below 20, the five-year rule is relaxed. If the count passes 100, removals follow a score that adds vintage points (5 for a vintage under one year, down to 1 for under five years) to market capitalisation points (5 for the top fifth of the index, down to 1 for the bottom fifth). A tie is settled by removing the stock with the lowest average market capitalisation.
How it is weighted
Stocks are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation, with no stock above 5%. Float-adjusted means only the shares available to trade count, as set by each company's Investable Weight Factor. If the count falls below 20 for any reason other than the five-year rule, the cap becomes 10%. Weights are set from closing prices on the Wednesday before the second Friday of the rebalancing month.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly, effective at market open on the Monday after the third Friday of the rebalancing month (Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec). The reference date is the close of the last trading day of Feb, May, Aug and Nov.
No company is added between rebalancings. A company can be deleted in between for events such as a merger, delisting, suspension or bankruptcy, and a company placed on the Graded Surveillance Measure list, the exchanges' list of stocks under extra surveillance, is dropped at the monthly review. It must stay off that list for six consecutive months before it can be considered again.
Base date and value
The index launched on 18 Nov 2024. Its history starts on 30 May 2014, the base date, at a base value of 1,000.
