About the Nifty100 Quality 30
Nifty100 Quality 30 is an index of 30 companies chosen from the Nifty 100 by quality score, built from return on equity, debt to equity and earnings per share growth variability over 5 years. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
A stock is eligible if it is in the Nifty 100 at the time of review, has a listing history of at least 1 year and is available for trading in the derivative segment (F&O). A stock with a negative EPS in any of the previous 6 years is not considered.
Each eligible stock gets a Z score for return on equity, debt to equity and EPS growth variability. A Z score is (x minus μ) divided by σ, where x is the stock's value, μ is the mean value of the parameter in the eligible universe and σ is the standard deviation of the parameters in the eligible universe. Debt to equity is left out for financial services companies.
Return on equity and debt to equity use the latest financial year. EPS growth variability uses the adjusted EPS of the previous 6 years.
The three Z scores are combined with 0.33 each, the debt to equity and variability scores entering with a minus sign. Financial services companies use 0.5 on return on equity and 0.5 on variability with a minus sign.
The quality score is 1 plus the average Z score when it is above 0, and 1 divided by (1 minus the average Z score) when it is below 0. The 30 stocks with the highest quality scores are selected.
How it is weighted
A stock's weight is its quality score multiplied by the square root of its free float market capitalization. No stock may exceed the lower of 5% or 5 times its weight in an index based on free float market capitalization alone, and the cap is applied at each rebalancing.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semi-annually, in Jun and Dec. The 10 highest ranked stocks by quality score are always included, and an existing member ranked beyond 50 is always removed.
An ad hoc change follows a suspension, a delisting or a scheme of arrangement of a member. Each quarter the index is also screened against SEBI's portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds announced on 10 Jan 2019.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Oct 2009 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 19 Mar 2015.
