About the BSE Enhanced Value Index
The BSE Enhanced Value Index is the 30 companies in the BSE LargeMidCap with the highest value scores, built from three ratios: book value, earnings and sales, each divided by price. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Members come from the BSE LargeMidCap. A company is eligible at a rebalancing if its average daily float-adjusted market capitalization is at least ₹2,000 crore, its annualized traded value is at least ₹1,000 crore and its turnover ratio is at least 20%. The turnover ratio is annualized traded value divided by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization.
A company must also have no more than five non-trading days in the past six months.
Book value is the latest figure per share, and earnings and sales are trailing 12-month figures per share. Each ratio becomes a z-score (calculated using the mean and standard deviation of that ratio within the universe) and the three are averaged. A positive average z-score gives a value score of 1 plus that z-score, and a negative one gives 1 divided by (1 minus the z-score).
Eligible companies are ranked by value score: the top 24 are selected, and existing members ranked 25 to 36 fill the remaining places up to 30.
How it is weighted
Each company is weighted by the product of its float-adjusted market capitalization weight in the eligible universe and its value score, subject to security and sector constraints.
A single security can weigh at most the lower of 5% and 20 times its float-adjusted market capitalization weight, and the companies in any one macro-economic indicator of the common India Industry Classification Structure together at most 30%. Each stock's weight is floored at 0.05%.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, effective from the Monday after the third Friday of Mar and Sep. Fundamental data are taken five weeks before the rebalancing date.
No companies are added between rebalancings.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 3 Dec 2015, and its first value date is 16 Sep 2005.
