About the BSE LargeMid (60:40) Stable Dividend 50
The BSE LargeMid (60:40) Stable Dividend 50 is an index of 50 companies that have paid stable dividends: the 20 largest from the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC and the 30 largest from the BSE 150 MidCap. It is maintained by BSE Index Services.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the BSE 250 LargeMidCap in two parts: Part 1 selects from the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC and Part 2 from the BSE 150 MidCap, and the two are combined.
Both parts apply the same tests. A stock must have traded on all days during the reference period and have an annualised daily turnover ratio of at least 20%. The company must have paid dividends in at least 2 of the last 3 financial years, at a dividend rate of 10% or more in at least 2 of those years. In Part 2, stocks in the bottom 10% by annualised daily turnover value are also excluded.
The bottom 20% of stocks by momentum score are then removed. Momentum is the 12-month price change divided by the standard deviation of daily price returns over the same period, so it adjusts for volatility. That figure is turned into a z-score (how far a stock sits from the average of its universe, in standard deviations) capped at plus or minus 3, and then into the momentum score.
The survivors are ranked by average six-month float-adjusted market capitalisation, which is company size counting only the shares available for public trading. In Part 1 the top 12 are selected whether or not they are current members, then existing members ranked 13 to 28 fill the remaining places in rank order until 20 are reached; if places remain, non-members ranked 13 to 28 follow, then other non-members by rank. Part 2 works the same way: the top 18, then existing members ranked 19 to 42, until 30 are reached.
How it is weighted
Weights are float-adjusted market capitalisation, capped. The large cap companies together are capped at 60% and the mid cap companies together at 40%. No large cap company may exceed 6% and no mid cap company 4%. Caps are applied each quarter, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Any addition or deletion triggers an ad-hoc rebalancing that reweighs all the caps.
When it is reviewed
Members are reconstituted semi-annually, in Jun and Dec.
Base date and value
The index has a base value of 1000, a first value date of 22 Jun 2015 and a launch date of 19 Jun 2026.
