About the BSE Healthcare
The BSE Healthcare is a sector index of the companies in the BSE AllCap that are classified as members of the healthcare sector. Its rules are set by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Each Sep, BSE AllCap companies are assigned to sector indices by the broad sector they are classified in under the common India Industry Classification Structure.
The BSE AllCap itself requires a trading frequency of at least 80% and an impact cost of 1% or less over the prior six months.
The BSE Healthcare succeeds a legacy BSE HEALTHCARE index, whose history before 15 Apr 2015 it carries. That legacy index held companies of the BSE 500 with at least 90% average float market capitalization coverage in the healthcare sector.
How it is weighted
Float is the part of a company's shares available for trading. Weights follow float-adjusted market capitalization.
One company is capped at 33% and the top three together at 63% of the index. Excess weight is shared proportionately among uncapped stocks.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced annually in Sep, with quarterly reviews in Dec, Mar and Jun. The Sep change takes effect at market open on the Monday following the third Friday, using data as of the last trading day of Jul.
A company whose sector classification changes between reconstitutions is moved at the quarterly share update.
