About the Nifty Healthcare Index
The Nifty Healthcare Index holds at most 20 healthcare companies drawn from the Nifty 500, and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
At each review, a company must form part of the Healthcare sector.
First, the 20 largest by six-month average free-float market capitalization among stocks available for trading in NSE's Futures & Options (F&O) segment are chosen. If fewer than 20 qualify, the rest are filled by the same measure.
How it is weighted
Weights follow free-float market capitalization, with no single stock above 33% and the top 3 stocks together not above 62% at the time of rebalancing. Weights are rebalanced quarterly from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semi-annually, with a cut-off date of 31 Jan and 31 Jul and an average of six months of data ending that date. The change takes effect from the last trading day of Mar and Sep.
F&O stocks are compulsorily included and replace the smallest members without F&O, up to 20 stocks. A stock outside F&O enters only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest member without F&O.
Base date and value
The base date is 1 Apr 2005 and the base value is 1000 points. The index was launched on 18 Nov 2020.
