About the Nifty MidSmall India Consumption
Nifty MidSmall India Consumption tracks mid cap and small cap stocks that broadly represent the consumption theme. It holds up to 30 companies, selected from the Nifty MidSmallcap 400.
How companies are chosen
Companies must be in the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 at the time of review and earn more than 50% of their operating revenues in India. The theme covers basic industries such as pharmaceuticals, media and entertainment, telecom services, hotels, consumer electronics, residential and commercial projects.
A stock outside the futures and options segment is ineligible if it hit its upper or lower circuit (price band) on 20% or more of the trading days in the past 6 months. A day on which it hit both counts as two instances.
The 30 eligible stocks with the highest 6-month average free-float market capitalization (the value of shares available for trading, leaving out what promoters hold) are chosen. If fewer than 30 are eligible, the index holds the number available.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free float market capitalization. A stock's weight is capped at 10% at rebalancing, and the cap is applied every quarter on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced quarterly. Each review uses average data for the six months ending on the cut-off dates of 31 Jan and 31 Jul, and replacements take effect on the last trading day of Mar and Sep.
A stock outside the index replaces the smallest constituent if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that constituent's.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 11 Oct 2022.
