About the Nifty IPO
Nifty IPO tracks the last 100 IPOs (initial public offerings, a company's first sale of shares to the public) listed on NSE that meet its minimum inclusion criteria, with weights based on free float market capitalization, the value of the shares available for public trading. The index is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
The universe is every IPO listed on the NSE Main board that was permitted to trade on NSE on its listing day. A company qualifies only if its free float market capitalization on its NSE listing date was ₹100 crore or more.
The last 100 IPOs that meet this test are eligible. On the base date, the previous 100 eligible IPOs were selected as the first members.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free float market capitalization and capped at 10%. The caps are reset at every review, whether periodic or ad hoc.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed and rebalanced quarterly, effective from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. At each review the number of members is reset to 100 by removing the excess stocks, and the stocks with the oldest listing dates leave first. Between reviews, each eligible new IPO joins on a T+4 basis, where T is its listing date, and no stock leaves to make room, so the index can hold more than 100 stocks until the next review. A member that is suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement is removed without a replacement.
Unlike most Nifty indices, it is not screened against the portfolio concentration norms SEBI set for equity ETFs and index funds in 2019.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 2 Jan 2017 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 19 Jul 2024. A total returns variant, Nifty IPO Total Returns Index, also exists.
