About the Nifty Top 20 Equal Weight

The Nifty Top 20 Equal Weight tracks the 20 largest stocks by 6-month average free-float market capitalization in the Nifty 50, each given the same weight. It was developed by NSE Indices.

How companies are chosen

Stocks in the Nifty 50, or about to join it, are eligible. A stock that moves out of the Nifty 50 also moves out of this index. A non-member eligible stock is included if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest index constituent.

How it is weighted

Each stock is reset to an equal weight every quarter, from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Weights may drift between two rebalancing periods as stock prices move.

When it is reviewed

The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced quarterly. Reconstitution uses data for 6 months, ending in Jan and Jul.

Base date and value

The index was launched on 22 Oct 2024 with a base value of 1000. A Total Returns Index variant is also calculated.
