About the Nifty500 Flexicap Quality 30
The Nifty500 Flexicap Quality 30 is an index of 30 companies, taking the top 10 by six-month average free-float market capitalization from each of the Nifty100 Quality 30, Nifty Midcap150 Quality 50 and Nifty Smallcap250 Quality 50. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Candidates are the stocks in three quality indices at the time of each review: the Nifty100 Quality 30 for large caps, the Nifty Midcap150 Quality 50 for mid caps and the Nifty Smallcap250 Quality 50 for small caps. Free float, used to rank them, counts only the shares normally expected to be available for trading, leaving out those reported under the promoter category.
The quality score behind the Nifty100 Quality 30 is built from return on equity, the debt to equity ratio and the variability of earnings per share growth over the previous 5 years.
A company joins only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent in its segment, and a stock that leaves its segment universe leaves the index at the next review.
How it is weighted
Weight is split between the large cap segment and the mid and small cap segment by the trend of the Mid-Small to Large ratio (MS/L ratio). When the ratio on the rebalancing date is at or above its 200 trading day moving average, mid and small caps get 2/3 and large caps 1/3.
When the ratio is below that average the split reverses, with 1/3 to mid and small caps and 2/3 to large caps. Each stock within a segment is weighted equally, and weights drift between rebalancings as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Jun and Dec, using data for the six months ending in May and Nov, and rebalanced on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
The cut-off dates are 31 May and 30 Nov, with four weeks of notice before a change. A constituent removed from its segment universe by a corporate action or an exchange suspension triggers an ad-hoc review.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Oct 2009 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 4 Apr 2025.
