About stock splits in 2022

Stock splits in 2022 are the splits of NSE and BSE listed companies whose shares went ex in that calendar year. A split divides each share into several of lower face value. This page lists them by month, with each company's face value change, record date and ex-date.

What the 2022 list shows

Each row is one company, with its industry, the face value before and after the split (for example ₹10 to ₹1), the record date and the ex-date. Months run from the latest ex-date back, with a count of splits for each month. Price and market cap are as they stand now, not as they were in 2022.

A split belongs to 2022 if its ex-date falls in that year, whatever its record date.

Record date and ex-date in 2022

The record date is the day the company checks its register to see who receives the split shares. The ex-date is the first day the shares trade without that right.

During 2022 settlement moved from two working days after a trade (T+2) to the next working day (T+1) in stages: the 100 smallest companies by market cap from 25 Feb 2022, then more each month, and the largest by 27 Jan 2023. A share still on T+2 went ex one working day before its record date, as Tata Steel did (ex-date 28 Jul 2022, record date 29 Jul 2022). A share already on T+1 went ex on the record date itself.

What a split changes

A split, called a sub-division in company filings, cuts the face value and multiplies the number of shares in the same ratio. Face value is the nominal value printed on a share, separate from its market price. A ₹10 share split into ten ₹1 shares gives ten shares for each one held.

The company's total value does not change, so the price falls by about the same ratio on the ex-date. The site's price charts and returns adjust for every split, so the fall does not show as a loss.

Split and bonus issue

A bonus issue gives holders extra shares free and leaves the face value unchanged. A split changes the face value and uses no reserves.
