About stock splits in 2021

Stock splits in 2021 are the splits of NSE and BSE listed companies whose ex-date fell in calendar 2021. A split divides each share into several shares of lower face value. The page lists each one by month with its old and new face value, record date and ex-date.

What a split is

A split, called a sub-division in company filings, cuts a share's face value, the nominal value printed on the share, and multiplies the number of shares in the same ratio. A ₹10 share split into five ₹2 shares gives five shares for each one held. The company's total value is unchanged, so the price falls by about the same ratio on the ex-date.

Record date and ex-date in 2021

The record date is the day the company's register is checked to see who receives the split shares. The ex-date is the first day the share trades without that entitlement. Trades in 2021 settled two working days after the trade (T+2), so the ex-date fell one trading day before the record date, as every 2021 row shows. Next-day settlement (T+1) came in stages from 25 Feb 2022, smallest companies first, and covered every share by 27 Jan 2023; since then the ex-date is normally the record date itself.

How this page builds the list

The list holds every split with an ex-date in 2021, grouped by month with the latest ex-date first. Each row gives the company with its industry and ticker, the face value before and after, the record date, the ex-date, the latest price with its daily change, and market cap. Price and market cap are today's, not the figures on the ex-date. Dixon Technologies split from ₹10 to ₹2 in Mar 2021, and IRCTC from ₹10 to ₹2 in Oct 2021.

Reading the face values

The face value pair shows the ratio. ₹10 to ₹1 means ten shares for one, ₹10 to ₹2 means five for one, and ₹10 to ₹5 means two for one. Charts and returns on this site adjust for every split.

Split and bonus issue

A bonus issue gives holders extra shares free and leaves face value unchanged. A split lowers face value instead. Both raise the share count and lower the price.
