About the BSE Focused IT
The BSE Focused IT is a sector index of the top 14 companies by float-adjusted market capitalisation that are in the BSE 500 and belong to the Information Technology sector. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Companies in the BSE 500 that are classified as Information Technology form the eligible universe.
They are ranked by average six months daily float-adjusted market capitalisation (adjusted by each company's investable weight factor, which defines the available float), and the top 11 that have a derivative contract (derivative linkage) are selected.
Existing constituents with derivative linkage ranked 12 to 17 are then retained, highest rank first, until the count of 14 is reached. If the count is still short, non-constituents are added by rank, with stocks with derivative linkage preferred.
How it is weighted
A share class of a company without derivative linkage cannot exceed 5% of the index, and all such constituents together cannot exceed 20%.
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation, with one company capped at 19%, the top 3 together at 43% and the top 5 together at 60%. Excess weight is spread across the remaining stocks. The caps are applied quarterly, at market open on the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec.
Base date and value
The index launched on 7 Oct 2024. Its first value date is 23 Jun 2014.
