About the Nifty Retail
Nifty Retail tracks all the Retail stocks within the Nifty Total Market Index, weighted by free-float market capitalization, the market value of the shares normally expected to be available for trading. Maintained by NSE Indices Limited, it held 24 companies on 30 Sep 2026.
How companies are chosen
Every stock in the Nifty Total Market Index at the time of review whose basic industry is on the eligible list is included, and the list may be updated from time to time.
A stock that is not yet a member and is not in the futures and options segment is ineligible if it hit the upper or lower price circuit on at least 20% of trading days in the past 6 months. The rules aim for at least 10 stocks, drawing extra ones from the top 1000 by turnover and full market cap when fewer qualify, though the index may still hold fewer than 10.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is capped at 20% on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, and weights drift with prices between those dates.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced quarterly. Reconstitution is in Mar and Sep, using the six months of data that ended in Jan and Jul. An extra review is triggered when a member leaves the Nifty Total Market Index or is suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 2 Apr 2018 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 15 Jun 2026.
The index is calculated at the end of each day, and a Total Returns variant also exists.
