About the Nifty Financial Services 25/50
Nifty Financial Services 25/50 is a capped version of the Nifty Financial Services index: no stock may weigh more than 25%, and stocks above 5% together may not weigh more than 50%. It holds every stock of its base index at all times, and the base index comprises at most 20.
How companies are chosen
The base index draws on Nifty 500 constituents representing financial services, across banking, financial institutions, housing finance, NBFC, insurance and other financial services. A company outside the base index joins it if its average free-float market capitalisation is at least 1.5 times that of the base index's smallest constituent.
How it is weighted
Weights follow free-float market capitalisation, subject to caps of 25% for one stock and 50% for the combined weight of stocks above 5%.
A buffer of 10% of each cap limit reduces the chance of a breach between rebalancings. At each quarterly rebalancing, each stock is capped at 22.5%, the top 3 stocks together at 45% (each floored at 4.6%), and stocks below the top 3 at 4.5% each. Capping uses closing prices three trading days before the effective date.
When it is reviewed
Index weights are rebalanced quarterly. Apart from a scheduled semi-annual review, an ad-hoc reconstitution is started if a constituent is suspended, delisted or undergoes a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index launched on 20 May 2020. Its base date is 1 Jan 2004 and its base value is 1000.
