About stock market holidays 2025

Stock market holidays 2025 are the days NSE and BSE were closed for share trading in the calendar year 2025. The page lists 18 holidays with their date, weekday and occasion: 14 fell on weekdays and 4 on a Saturday or Sunday.

Weekday holidays

Only a holiday on a weekday removes a trading day, because the exchanges are closed on Saturdays and Sundays anyway. In 2025 that meant 14 lost trading days. Republic Day (26 Jan), Shri Ram Navami (6 Apr), Bakri Id (7 Jun) and Muharram (6 Jul) fell on a weekend, and the page marks them as such.

The first weekday closure was Mahashivratri on 26 Feb and the last was Christmas on 25 Dec. Apr 2025 had the most closed days of any month, four, one of them a Sunday, with Oct 2025 next at three. Sep 2025 had none. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra shared one closure on Thursday 2 Oct.

Muhurat trading

Muhurat trading is a short special session held on Diwali Laxmi Pujan, a day the market is otherwise closed. The session marks the start of the new Samvat year, the Hindu calendar year that begins at Diwali, which traders regard as auspicious. In 2025 the session was held on Tuesday 21 Oct, in the afternoon from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm rather than the evening, and the page marks that row. The next day, 22 Oct (Diwali-Balipratipada), was a full holiday.

Settlement around holidays

Settlement is the exchange of shares and money after a trade. Shares bought on a trading day settle one working day later (T+1), and a holiday is not a working day. A trade made on the day before a holiday therefore settles on the first working day after it.

How the page lists them

The list follows the closures the exchanges announced for the year, in date order, and has no filters. A monthly calendar marks closed days apart from weekends, and year links let the same view open for each other year back to 2007.
