About stock market holidays 2007
Stock market holidays 2007 are the days NSE and BSE were closed for share trading in the calendar year 2007. The page lists 22 holidays with date, weekday and name: 13 fell on a weekday and 9 on a Saturday or Sunday, which cost no trading day.
Weekday holidays
Only a holiday on a weekday removes a trading day, because the exchanges are shut on Saturdays and Sundays anyway. In 2007 that meant 13 closed weekdays. The first was Bakri ID on Monday 1 Jan and the last was Christmas on Tuesday 25 Dec. Republic Day (Friday 26 Jan) and Moharram (Tuesday 30 Jan) followed, so Jan 2007 had three closed weekdays, the most of any month. Jun, Jul and Sep 2007 had none.
Nine other holidays fell on a weekend: Holi, Mahavir Jayanti, Id-E-Milad, Ambedkar Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ramzan Id, Dasara, Bhaubeej and Guru Nanak Jayanti.
Two Bakri ID closures
Bakri ID appears twice in 2007, on Monday 1 Jan and Friday 21 Dec. Islamic festivals follow a lunar calendar and move about 11 days earlier each year, so one can land twice in a calendar year.
Muhurat trading
On Friday 9 Nov 2007, Laxmi Puja, the regular session did not run and the page marks the row as a muhurat trading day. Muhurat trading is a short evening session held on Diwali to open the new Samvat year, the Hindu calendar year that begins at Diwali.
Settlement around holidays
Shares in 2007 settled on T+2: the shares and the money changed hands two working days after the trade, a cycle in force since 1 Apr 2003, and a holiday does not count as a working day. Maharashtra Day and Buddha Pournima closed the market on two days in a row, Tuesday 1 May and Wednesday 2 May 2007, so the market did not trade between Monday 30 Apr and Thursday 3 May.
What the page shows
The table lists each closure in date order with its weekday, and its note column marks the weekend holidays and the muhurat session. The calendar below it shades the closed days month by month with a count per month.
