About stock market holidays 2017
Stock market holidays 2017 are the days NSE and BSE were closed for share trading in that calendar year: 18 holidays, 13 of them on a weekday, from Republic Day on 26 Jan to Christmas on 25 Dec. The other five fell on a Saturday or Sunday and cost no trading day.
Holidays in 2017
Mahavir Jayanti (9 Apr), Bakri ID (2 Sep), Dasera (30 Sep), Moharram (1 Oct) and Gurunanak Jayanti (4 Nov) fell on a weekend, and the page marks them so.
Oct 2017 had the most closed days, four, one of them a Sunday. Apr 2017 had three, and Sep 2017 had two, both on a Saturday.
Muhurat trading
Muhurat trading is a short special session held in the evening of Diwali Laxmi Pujan, a day the market is closed for normal hours. It marks the start of the new Samvat year, the Hindu calendar year that begins at Diwali. In 2017 the page marks 19 Oct, a Thursday, as the muhurat session. The next day, 20 Oct (Diwali-Balipratipada), was a full holiday.
Settlement around holidays
Settlement is the exchange of shares and money after a trade. In 2017 shares settled two working days after the trade, called T+2, and a holiday is not a working day. Mahashivratri on Friday 24 Feb and Holi on Monday 13 Mar each made a three-day closure with the weekend.
How the page lists them
The list follows the closures the exchanges published for 2017, in date order, with no filters. Its columns are date, day, holiday and note. A monthly calendar marks the closed days, and year links open the same view for other years.
