About the Nifty Dividend Opportunities 50
The Nifty Dividend Opportunities 50 is an index of 50 companies listed on NSE, chosen for their high dividend yield while meeting stability and tradability requirements. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Dividend yield is the dividends a company paid over the last 12 months (counted by ex-dividend date, before the rebalancing reference date) measured against its average market capitalisation over the one-year period ending Jan.
A company must be domiciled in India and traded on NSE, rank within the top 300 companies by average free-float market capitalisation and by average daily turnover over the last six months, have traded on at least 90% of days in those six months, have a listing history of 1 year, and have reported a net profit in its latest annual audited results.
The 25 companies with the highest annual dividend yield are included automatically, and companies ranked below 75 by annual dividend yield are excluded. Any shortfall from 50 is filled by taking companies in order of higher annual dividend yield rank.
How it is weighted
The index is calculated by free-float market capitalisation, with each company capped at 10% at the time of rebalancing. Capping factors are realigned when a company is replaced in the index and every quarter from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. A company's weight can rise above 10% between rebalancings as its price moves.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed once a year, using data for the six months ending on the last trading day of Jan. The change is implemented from the first working day after the F&O expiry of Mar.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Oct 2007 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 22 Mar 2011.
