About the Nifty Mobility
Nifty Mobility is an index of up to 30 Nifty 500 companies that broadly represent the mobility theme, from industries such as airlines, passenger cars and ports. It was developed by NSE Indices.
How companies are chosen
Stocks that are part, or about to become part, of the Nifty 500 at the time of review are eligible. They must also belong to certain eligible basic industries under the AMFI Industry Classification.
Other eligible basic industries include 2/3 wheelers, auto components, batteries, bearings and commercial vehicles. E-commerce companies that deliver goods are also eligible.
The largest 30 eligible stocks are chosen by their average free-float market capitalisation over 6 months.
How it is weighted
Stocks are weighted by free-float market capitalization. Free float is the part of a company's shares that is normally expected to be available for trading; shares reported under the promoter category are left out of it.
Sectors for certain basic industries are capped at 20% each and the stocks in them at 5% each. All other stocks are capped at 8% each.
Those capped industries are abrasives, bearings, castings and forgings, LPG/CNG/PNG/LNG suppliers, railway wagons, refineries and marketing, ship building and allied services, and gas transmission and marketing. If four or more of their stocks hit the 5% cap, the 20% sector cap is relaxed from 20% to 25%, then 30% and so on.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed twice a year and reconstituted in Mar and Sep, along with the Nifty broad-based indices.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 7 Dec 2021.
