About the Nifty India Select 5 Corporate Groups (MAATR)
The Nifty India Select 5 Corporate Groups (MAATR) tracks the stocks in the Nifty 500 that belong to five corporate groups: Mahindra, Aditya Birla, Adani, Tata and Reliance. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It held 40 companies on 30 Sep 2026.
How companies are chosen
The index draws on the Nifty 500, including stocks that are going to join it at the review. Every Nifty 500 stock that belongs to one of the five groups is selected, with no other screen. A member that no longer belongs to any of the five groups is removed, and a stock that leaves the Nifty 500 leaves the index at the next review.
The rules set a minimum of 10 stocks. If fewer than 10 qualify, the gap is filled from stocks ranked within the top 800 on both average daily turnover and average daily full market capitalization over the previous six months. If that is still short, the search widens to the top 1000, 1100, 1200 and so on until 10 are found. If the groups still do not supply 10, the index may hold fewer.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by free-float market capitalization, the value of the shares available for trading. At rebalancing, each corporate group is capped at 23% of the index and each stock at 15%.
Capping is done on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Between those dates weights drift with prices. Each quarter the index is also screened against SEBI's portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds, announced on 10 Jan 2019, and weights or members are corrected if a norm is breached.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted and rebalanced every quarter, in Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, using data for the end of Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct respectively. An extra review is triggered if a member is removed from the Nifty 500 through a scheme of arrangement, delisting or suspension by the exchange.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1,000. It was launched on 12 Nov 2024.
