About the Nifty Midcap Liquid 15

The Nifty Midcap Liquid 15 is an index of 15 liquid midcap companies, maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It is designed to give exposure to liquid midcap stocks while staying easily replicable and tradable.

How companies are chosen

The universe is the companies in the Nifty Midcap 50, and all constituents have derivatives traded on them.

A company qualifies when its turnover ratio, a month's aggregate turnover divided by its average free float during the month, times 12, is above 100% in at least 3 of the last 6 months. The eligible companies are ranked by free float market capitalisation and the top 15 are selected.

A member leaves when its ratio is below 100% in 3 of the previous 6 months. At most 4 stocks are replaced in one review, a limit that may not apply when stocks leave the futures and options segment or the Nifty Midcap 50. A member that still qualifies can also be replaced by a stock with 1.5 times its free float market capitalisation.

How it is weighted

Weights follow free float market capitalisation, with each stock capped at 15% when the index is rebalanced. The cap is realigned when a stock is replaced and each quarter, from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.

Between rebalancings a stock's weight can rise above 15%.

When it is reviewed

The index is reviewed twice a year, using average data for the six months to the last trading day of Jan and Jul. Four weeks of notice are given before a change.

Base date and value

The index launched on 8 May 2014. Its base date is 1 Jan 2009 and its base value is 1000.
