About bonus shares in 2025

Bonus shares in 2025 are the free extra shares that listed companies gave existing shareholders in a fixed ratio, such as 1 for 1, with an ex-date in that calendar year. This page lists every such issue on NSE and BSE by month, with ratio, record date and ex-date.

What a bonus issue is

A bonus issue turns a company's reserves into new shares handed out without payment. In a 1 for 1 issue, a holder of 100 shares receives 100 more. Since the company holds the same assets across twice as many shares, the price roughly halves on the ex-date.

Ratio, record date and ex-date

The ratio is read as shares received for shares held. The record date is the day the company checks its register to see who is entitled. The ex-date is the first day a new buyer no longer gets the shares. Where the record date is not a trading day, the ex-date moves to the trading day before: HDFC Bank's record date, 27 Aug 2025, was a market holiday, so its ex-date was 26 Aug.

How the list is built

A company is included when its ex-date falls between 1 Jan and 31 Dec 2025. Each row shows the company with its industry, the price and the market cap (blank where none is available). Bajaj Finance gave 4 for 1 on 16 Jun 2025, the same day its shares split from ₹2 to ₹1.

Bonus shares and share splits

A split divides each share's face value and leaves reserves as they are, while a bonus issue moves reserves into share capital and keeps the face value. Both raise the share count and lower the price in proportion. Prices and returns on this site are adjusted for bonus issues, so the ex-date fall does not show as a loss.

Conditions for an issue

SEBI's issue rules require the articles of association to permit a bonus issue. The company must be up to date on interest and principal of its fixed deposits and debt securities, and on employees' statutory dues such as provident fund and gratuity. Partly paid shares must be made fully paid first, and holders of compulsorily convertible debt get shares set aside in proportion.
