About stocks above 200 DMA

Stocks above 200 DMA are listed companies whose latest close is at or above the average of their last 200 closing prices, the 200-day moving average. The page lists each with its distance from the 50-day and 200-day averages, so a share just over the line can be told from one far above it.

200-day moving average

A 200-day moving average (200 DMA) adds up the last 200 daily closing prices and divides by 200. Each session the oldest close drops out and the newest enters, so the line moves with price. Traders read it as the long-run trend line.

The rule on this page

A stock is listed when its distance from the 200-day average is 0% or more: today's close divided by the average close of the last 200 sessions, minus 1, times 100. Filters for sector and size narrow the list.

Reading the columns

RSI is the average rise over 14 sessions as a share of the average rise plus the average fall, on a 0 to 100 scale. ADX is a 0 to 100 measure of how much of the last 14 sessions' movement ran in one direction. Beta is how strongly a stock's daily returns moved with NIFTY 500's over one year. Fall 1Y is the deepest drop from any close to a later close in the past year.

Since cross counts the sessions since the 50-day average crossed the 200-day average. An upward cross is called a golden cross, a downward one a death cross. Since MACD cross counts the sessions since the MACD line crossed its signal line.

Limits of the measure

The 200 DMA is built from past prices, so it lags: a stock can turn well before its price reaches the line. Each of the 200 closes carries equal weight, so a sharp move in the latest week shifts the average only a little. A close above the line places price against its own history and does not say what comes next.
