About volume shockers

Volume shockers are NSE shares that traded at least three times their usual daily volume on the latest day. Usual means the average of the 50 sessions before it. The page sorts them by that multiple, highest first, and shows price, distance from highs and lows, rupee value traded and delivery share.

The 3x rule

Volume is the number of shares that changed hands in a session. The page divides the latest day's volume by the average volume of the 50 sessions before it and keeps companies where the result is 3 or higher. A stock that usually trades 2 lakh shares a day and trades 6 lakh or more on the latest day meets the test. The Volume against usual filter can be cleared or changed.

Volume against value traded

A high multiple on a thinly traded share can mean a small rupee amount. The page shows the value traded in crore too. The multiple measures a share against its own history, not against other companies, which is why a large company and a small one can sit side by side.

Delivery share

Delivery is the share of traded quantity that buyers took into their accounts instead of selling the same day. The page shows it averaged over 20 sessions, so it describes the stock's recent habit and not only the day of the spike.

Distance from highs and lows

From high and From low place the latest close against the 52-week high and low, and From ATH against the all-time high, each in per cent, with a close below the high reading negative. A spike at a fresh high can be told from one after a long fall.

What a spike does not say

The screen records that volume rose, not why. Heavy volume can come with results, an announcement, an index change, a block deal, or a price fall as much as a rise, and the multiple carries no direction. Because the average covers 50 sessions, a stock that has been busy for weeks has a higher bar than a quiet one.
