Pharma companies in India: list of 221 pharma stocks

The page applies one rule: the company's industry is Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology. It does not pick companies by size or ratio, so large groups and very small ones sit in one list. It can be narrowed by name, sector and size, and the tabs switch the columns to valuation, returns, profitability, growth, ownership and trading figures.

The industry holds makers of finished medicines (formulations), the active ingredients inside them (APIs), and biotechnology firms. Contract manufacturers, which make drugs for other companies, are included. Hospitals and diagnostic labs belong to a separate industry, healthcare services.

Market cap is price times the number of shares, what the whole company is worth at that price. P/E is market cap divided by the last twelve months' profit that belongs to the company's own shareholders. ROCE is operating profit after depreciation, leaving out other income and one-off items, as a percentage of net worth plus borrowings, without lease liabilities.

The 1D and 1Y changes are share price changes adjusted for splits and bonuses. Dividends are not added.

Some companies earn mainly in India, where retail prices of drugs on the National List of Essential Medicines are capped by the national pricing authority. Others earn largely from exports, especially generic medicines for the US, where each product needs the US drug regulator's approval and its inspectors visit the plants. An inspection finding can affect a company's sales.

A one-off gain or loss in the last twelve months can make a P/E or ROCE unrepresentative of a company's usual profit.
