About defence stocks in India

Defence stocks in India are listed companies that NSE's industry classification places in Aerospace & Defense: makers of civil and military aerospace and defence equipment, electronics and the parts that go into them. The list is sorted by market cap, largest first.

What the list contains

A company is listed when its industry is Aerospace & Defense, which sits inside the Capital Goods sector. There is no minimum size, so small suppliers appear beside large manufacturers. Filters narrow it by sector or size.

Who is in the list

Large manufacturers and small component suppliers sit in one list. Shipbuilding is classed under Industrial Manufacturing in the same sector, so most shipbuilders are not in this list.

Orders and revenue

Demand comes largely from government spending on defence. Orders are often placed months or years before delivery, so many makers report an order book: contracts won but not yet delivered and billed. Revenue is booked as orders are executed.

Columns and their limits

Long contracts make profit uneven from quarter to quarter, so a twelve-month P/E or ROCE can swing with the timing of deliveries. The 1D and 1Y changes are adjusted for splits and bonuses and do not include dividends. A company that earns only part of its revenue from defence is still listed in full, so its figures mix defence and other business.
