Company has purchased and extinguished the following Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds on March 31, 2009:- (i) 170 Zero Coupon Convertible Alternative Reference Securities (due 2012), Cusip 030788176 and ISIN No. XS0307881762 of the face value US $ 1,00,000 each aggregating $ 17,000,000 at the average price of 50.375%. Subsequent to this repurchase, the outstanding Bonds would reduce from $ 490 million to $ 473 million. (ii) 30 Zero Coupon Convertible Notes (due 2011), Cusip 024521788 and ISIN No. XS0245217889 of the face value of JP 10,000,000 each aggregating JP 300,000,000 at an average price of 54.27%. Subsequent to this repurchase, the outstanding Bonds would reduce from JP 11760 million to JP 11460 million.

Vide notes to Accounts in the Audited Financial Results for the quarter ended June 30, 2008 (taken on record by the Board of the Directors of the Company at its Meeting held on July 30, 2008) that : "Effective from April 1, 2008, the company has applied hedge accounting principles in respect of forward exchange contracts as set out in Accounting Standard (AS) 30 - Financial Instruments : Recognition and Measurement, issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Accordingly, all such contracts outstanding as on June 30, 2008 are marked to market and a notional loss aggregating to Rs 13116 lakhs (net of tax) arising on contracts that were designated and effective as hedges of future cash flows, has been directly recognised in the Hedging Reserve Account to be ultimately recognised in the Profit and Loss Account depending on the exchange rate fluctuation till and when the underlying forecasted transaction occurs.
