Promoter buying stocks: promoters raised their stake

The page applies one filter: promoter holding change since the previous filing of 1 percentage point or more, the promoter group's share at the latest filing minus its share at the one before. A rise from 61.4% to 62.4% meets the test; a rise to 62.2% does not. Each row names the date it is measured from.

A percentage point is the plain difference between two holding figures. Going from 20% to 21% is one point, while the stake itself grew by 5%. The change cell is blank when the two filings count shares underlying depositary receipts differently, or when either filing names no promoter group, because the two figures would not be comparable.

A higher promoter share does not always mean promoters bought on the market. It can follow a preferential allotment of new shares to the promoter group, a conversion of warrants, or a buyback that shrinks the share count while promoters keep their shares. The page shows the change, not the cause.

Under SEBI's takeover rules, a promoter group holding 25% or more may add up to 5% of the voting rights in a financial year without an open offer to other shareholders. Purchases count gross, ignoring sales in between, and the group may not pass 75%, since at least 25% must stay with the public. A promoter whose trades in a calendar quarter exceed ₹10 lakh must tell the company within two trading days, and the company tells the exchanges.

Companies file their shareholding within 21 days of each quarter's end, and within 10 days when new shares or a buyback move the share capital by more than 2%, so some rows start from a filing made between quarters. SME companies file every six months. Purchases made and reversed between filings do not show. The same change is shown for foreign institutions, Indian institutions and mutual funds.
