About the Nifty 8-13 yr G-Sec

The Nifty 8-13 yr G-Sec is a Government of India bond index built from the 3 most traded liquid bonds with residual maturity between 8 and 13 years. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.

How companies are chosen

Each month the 3 bonds with the highest turnover are eligible, and a bond needs an outstanding amount above ₹5,000 crore. Special securities, floating rate securities, inflation linked securities and Sovereign Green Bonds are excluded.

A member that drops out of the top 3 by turnover is replaced only by a bond with a maturity of more than 9 years that traded for more than 10 days in the month, with average daily turnover and number of trades each 2 times those of the existing bond. If no bond is available for replacement, the existing bond continues. A bond whose residual maturity falls below 8 years leaves the index.

How it is weighted

Weights combine liquidity at 40% and outstanding amount at 60%, and are set at the end of the existing month.

When it is reviewed

The composition is reviewed monthly with a data cut-off of 9 working days before the last working day of the month, on which changes take effect.

Base date and value

The index has a base date of 3 Jan 2011 and a base value of 1000.
